Having booked our flights to Vietnam through a UK tour operator, we were assured that we could obtain a Vietnam visa arrival at HCMC airport by filling out a entry form and presenting 2 passport size photos. This was confirmed to me by a work colleague, who had visited there 4 weeks prior to us. This is definitely not the case! You must have either a Vietnam embassy visa or a letter of recommendation to collect your visa Vietnam on arrival before you travel. After an hour of speaking to 3 different people, showing our pre booked tour itinerary, even though we had a tour guide waiting for us, we could only enter once we agreed to stay at another hotel in the city (the one already booked was’nt suitable) and use the services of an agent to obtain a visa entry Vietnam for the following day. At lunch time, the following day the agent came with our and approx 12 other passports for people in the same position as ourselves. This cost us 120 US dollars each for the Visa entry Vietnam and the cost of 1 night in a 4 star hotel! We have no one to blame but ourselves, as we should have checked for ourselves.
